What are some good ideas for homemade Christmas gifts I could give?

January 12, 2010 - 6:37 am 7 Comments

I am 13 and need to give gifts to my dad, mom, grandma, and grandpa. My family is running tight on money so I don’t get much to spend on gifts. I do NOT want ideas like coupons or dumb stuff like that I want to give them something they will find useful or something that they will REALLY like. Ideas PLEASE I appreciate it.

How about rice bags? Fill a sock with white rice. Sew it closed tightly. Make a cover out of flannel. The finished rice bag can be microwaved for a neck/foot/cuddly warmer, or put in the freezer to place on injuries.

What does ganz mean in German?

What does the german word ganz mean?

It really depends on the context! The literal translation is "whole"

Die ganze Welt = the whole world
Das ist nicht ganz richtig = That’s not wholly correct; That’s almost correct
Nicht ganz so schön = Not very nice (nice as the outter appearance)
Ich habe ganz vergessen dich anzurifen = I totally (wholly) forgot to phone you.

Where can I find a small plush llama in the Albany Auckland region?

Hi there,
I am looking for a small plush toy/finger puppet (whatever, as long as it’s under $10) for a secret Santa? It needs to be in the Albany or close to (eg Glenfield, Westgate etc) area. If anyone could let me know what shop? Already planning on looking in Natures Discovery & Natures Window.

If you decide to order online - this site has finger puppets and a 25% off coupon code this week.

How much should I spend on Christmas gifts for close friends?

January 9, 2010 - 1:51 am 6 Comments

Typically I would spend between $50-100 on my closest friends for Christmas, but I’ve noticed every year that my friends would spend between $5-25 for my gifts. Job wise; I don’t make a whole lot and probably earn the least amount of money out of all my friends. I want to be generous for Christmas gifts, but am I being too generous? Going forward, Should I adjust my spending to $5-25?

Generally speaking, I try not to look at price when buying gifts for my two closest friends. I know one of them definitely never looks at price, and the other will try to match my gift value. But I know they both don’t mind if we look for cheaper prices for the same item.

I usually feel guilty if my friends buy me something expensive, so I’ll try to match them. I guess all I can recommend is don’t go intentionally looking for expensive gifts. Just like someone else said, if you see something one of them’ll like, just buy that. You don’t have to flourish it up and make it an expensive gift.

Also, they may not realize how much you’re putting into their gifts. And do you just feel that the gifts you’re getting are cheap? Or do you know? Best not think about that if you don’t know for sure.
Plus, it’s the thought that counts right?

What kinds of gifts to give to poverty stricken 1st grade and 5th grade boys?

I’m volunteering to help get holiday gifts for our local school. I have some ideas as what to get, but I would love to get them something memorable. But problem is I will be using corporate spending. I don’t like the idea of just traditional things, although I feel they may enjoy it. I feel that something that is memorable, without going overboard maybe worth it.
What does anyone recommend?

Have you considered getting them food? Perhaps a Christmas dinner instead of a toy? That would help not only the boys, but the families as well. There’s an old TV show called M*A*S*H where an officer gives candy anonymously to orphans only to find out that the candy was sold on the black market to buy enough food to feed the kids for a month. "It is sadly inappropriate to give dessert to a child who has no dinner."

That being said, if the food route is not a way you wish to go, check out Toys R Us. They have search filters by age and theme. That might provide you with a idea of what to get. Maybe even hang out near the Santa at the Mall and eavesdrop on the wishes of the children in that age-range.

Good luck. I hope your gesture brings happiness.
