what is the best way to completly remove dog urine from my plush carpet?

My shih Tzu loves to pee on my carpet. I have a rug doctor and it still doesnt fully come out. Any suggestions?

Here is a site that I would highly recommend. They have very high quality stain removal techniques. I would suggest repeating the process after the first application, and rinsing the rug out with cool water in between applications. Best of luck!

I’ve had great luck with Nature’s Miracle. It’s the only cleaner I’ve ever used that completely removed a stain/odor.

You need to eliminate the odor of urine. Most household cleaners use ammonia in the product and ammonia smells like urine. Which is like having a little sign saying "pee here". What I’ve use after cleaning is white vinegar. It has never marred anything it was used on - inside and outside carpet, wood finished/unfinished, painted, tile, etc. You can use it straight or dilute it 1 part vinegar to 9 parts water. You home will smell like vinegar for awhile but the smell does go away.

Liquid Rid-x will remove urine odors from carpet. It is meant to be a septic system treatment and uses bacteria and enzymes to break down organic matter. The same bacteria and enzymes will digest the urine in your carpet. Test it in a hidden spot to be sure it won’t harm the carpet.

First of all do not use standard carpet cleaners on your carpets, they only make the urine adhere to the fibers. Thus, the dog still smells the urine resulting in continued peeing in the house. Do not use steam cleaners either. When I say this I do not mean a machine, such as a Bissel that heats the water really hot but true steam cleaners. Steam cleaners also help the urine to adhere to the carpet. So does bleach.
Here is what you do. Fill up your carpet cleaner with hot water. Go over the stains with just clear water first. After the carpet dries, go to the pet store and get a product that breaks down pet stains. I use Pet Zyme from Pet Smart. Feel it is the best for the money. Put this on the carpet and let it dry. Finally put this in your rug cleaner, instead of the traditional shampoo and clean your rugs.
I have two shih tzus. They are stubborn but below I have offered some additional house training tips to try.
House training a dog can be frustrating. However, here is the best advice I can offer. Tether training is by far the quickest way to house train. You tether the dog to your belt by its leash. It follows you everywhere. When it squats to pee, immediately take it out. When it goes outside make a big deal with lots of praise, clapping, and a treat. The dog will learn quickly to go out. Get them on a schedule. At first, take the dog out every 20 minutes and increase the time. Always take them out 20 minutes after eating.
You can also crate train. The crate should be only big enough for the dog to stand and turn around in, otherwise it will potty in one part of the crate and lay in another. Dogs naturally do not want o potty in their sleeping area, so it will start holding itself until you let it out of its crate, provided it is on a schedule. And remember, do not crate your dog all the time. They need exercise and social interaction. They cannot be locked up all the time.

i have 10 dogs and our oldest dog has few accidents sometimes and Natures Miracle works amazingly on our carpet. read the directions though before you use it. Theres different ways to use it for different floors. Natures Miracle get rid of the urine smell too. Its works better if you use the bissel pro heat or some kind of shampooing machine. make sure the water is really hot. hope this helps.
