Day 20: Attn. Real Estate Agents–Do It THIS Way!
In the “Day 19″ entry for this “26 Weeks to Freedom” accountability project, I was mentioning that I would eventually like to help my former colleagues in the real estate business drive more traffic to their websites. In doing some random Google searches, I have found an outstanding example of an agent who obviously “gets it” and is doing everything right! Ironically, this agent (whom I have never met) works for one of the lesser-known companies here in the Portland area, but his personal website has triumphed over that of every other individual agent and all but two company websites in the entire Portland area! That, folks, is no small achievement.
Take a closer look and see for yourself: click the link below for my main blog site to see a screen shot of the first page of Google’s search results for the search term “real estate agents in portland oregon”. On the screen I show the first five “organic” search results, exclusive of all the paid ads and “directory” listings at the top of the page. The site I am applauding is www.repdx.com in the No. 5 position—and that’s No. 5 out of 28,500,000 competing pages!!
How did Ron Ares, the agent whose site this is, accomplish this “David vs. Goliath” feat? Well, we can get some pretty good clues just by taking a quick look at his website. First, it’s a blog site (a Wordpress one) and we know that Google loves blogs (he even includes the word “blog” in the title he uses for the search engines). Second, it has video featured right on the home page, and we know that Google loves video! Third, it has lots of links to social media sites and an RSS button, as well as links to other blog sites! And fourth, it has lots of valuable, relevant content about the real estate market in Portland–-not just the latest market statistics and a link to search for homes. I’m sure that further examination would reveal more clues, but you get the idea.
Whether you’re a real estate agent or not, this example should be a real eye-opener if you want to give your website a big boost in the search engine rankings. The fact that Ron’s site outranks that of every other agent in town and all but two of the company websites in the Portland area proves that if you learn how to do it right, even a small business entrepreneur can win at this Internet marketing game!
